It is an opportunity for us to reflect on the language and ideas that represented each year. So, take a stroll down memory lane to remember all of our past Word of the Year selections. Change It wasn’t trendy , funny, nor was it coined on Twitter , but we thought change told a real story about how our users defined Unlike in , change was no longer a campaign slogan. But, the term still held a lot of weight. Here’s an excerpt from our Word of the Year announcement in The national debate can arguably be summarized by the question:

Click here to see the final day’s envelope. I decided to link it to the lesson, ” Who am I and who can I become? I encouraged them to open them at quiet moments when they could devote a few minutes to reading it and writing in their journal afterward.
I am just getting going with creating some cute things for this new Young Women blog, so have patience with me, and soon I will have almost as many things for you to enjoy as I do on my other two blogs.
Kant on sexuality and objectification Immanuel Kant’s views on sexual objectification have been particularly influential for contemporary feminist discussions on this topic. Kant thought that sexuality is extremely problematic when exercised outside the context of monogamous marriage, arguing that in such instances it leads to objectification. Objectification, for Kant, involves the lowering of a person, a being with humanity, to the status of an object.
Humanity, for Kant, is an individual’s rational nature and capacity for rational choice. The characteristic feature of humanity is an individual’s capacity for rationally setting and pursuing her own ends. A being with humanity is capable of deciding what is valuable, and of finding ways to realise and promote this value. Humanity is what is special about human beings. It distinguishes them from animals and inanimate objects. It is crucial, for Kant, that each person respects humanity in others, as well as humanity in their own person.
Humanity must never be treated merely as a means, but always at the same time as an end Kant , Kant is worried that when people exercise their sexuality outside the context of monogamous marriage, they treat humanity merely as a means for their sexual purposes. The loved person loses what is special to her as a human being, her humanity, and is reduced to a thing, a mere sexual instrument. Kant’s notion of objectification, therefore, focuses largely on instrumentality:

The Importance of Self-Reliance As I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our little one, I have been enjoying myself and passing the time by reading next month’s young women “Come Follow Me” lesson outlines! The talks that correlate to the lesson outlines are wonderful and must reads! I feel like the messages are so important, and felt grateful for the inspiration I personally received, especially as I prepare to be a soon-to-be mom! I decided to get a head start on creating some fun handouts and lesson helps to spark some inspiration!
The handouts below directly coordinate to the lesson outline You can download a PDF copy of the handouts and lesson helps by clicking on the links below.

This way when we plan activities, we can make sure we focus on what needs to be completed in their Personal Progress books. All members of the presidency have access to view the Young Women in your ward personal progress if it is in-put on LDS. You can access it on LDS. Once on the Personal Progress page on the right hand side, there is a link to “Leader Summary”, which shows were everyone is on their book.
Photo from Sister’s in Zion blog We did the activity just as they outlined and it was a blast! Our President received all of the Young Women’s membership number. This let up set up a log in for each girl on LDS. Then we input the information from their books into LDS. The Young Women presidency helped the girls input their data, while all of the advisors cooked pancakes and crepes.
We had lots of toppings, syrup, strawberries, whip cream, Nutella, Jams, blueberries etc.

This is a lesson I taught to the combined group of Young Women. What a fun topic! One that isn’t frosted and one that looks yummy but is fake only frosting. I baked only a tablespoon or two of batter in the cupcake paper and before frosting it I filled the paper with a Styrofoam ball.
Come Follow Me: Dating YOUNG WOMEN CORNER: COME FOLLOW ME. This week I decided to create some handouts for the Young Women “Come Follow Me” Curriculum for the month. The principles the youth are focusing on this month is “Marriage and Family”.
This Power Point Covers: I tried to keep it concise but there are a lot of slides with a lot of info. I have found the power points are a great tool to keep the girls focused. It works even better when I let the girls do the reading! If the slide has a lot to read I just go around the room and let each girl read a section or bullet point. This seems to keep them on their toes and listening! The first uses toothpicks Have a girl come up and try to break one toothpick. She will be able to do it easily.
Add more toothpicks representing family members, and another representing Christ we want to keep his influence in our homes once the bundle is bigger wind an elastic around it to keep them together. Now have the girl try to break them. She won’t be able to because the bigger bunch is much stronger

Posted by Tim and Ashlee at 8: So she came over to my house after work one day and taught Kimmy and I how to make them. Kinsey and Kamry liked helping out too. We did 25lbs and Kimmy and I split that. Then my dad came home with 25lbs more and asked us to do them for him too. Pickled beets are loved in my family. So the next morning Kimmy and I did the other 25lbs for Dad. My house smelled terrible for a few days.
It was a lovely mixture of beets, vinegar, and paint as I painted my hallway earlier that day too. Kimmy said she opened one of her jars and the top ones weren’t quite pickled yet.

Today I had the privilege of teaching my Laurels lesson 18 out of Manual 1. Requirement for Eternal Family Life. This is probably one of my very most favorite lessons to teach. Well because you see One of my most favorite topics indeed. I showed the girls a snippet of our wedding video.
The Young Women theme provides a foundation for helping each young woman accomplish the objectives of the Young Women Organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Girls and their adult leaders repeat the theme at the beginning of Sunday meetings and at other gatherings.
More than of you left us a comment with a question about love and romance. Courtship and dating are words that are thrown around a lot on this blog. Courtship has been around for a long, long time. For many, courtship feels like an old-fashioned word that conjures up images of a couple sitting in a living room under the watchful eye of parents until the fella gets down on one knee and proposes. Courtship crashed back onto the cultural landscape in a big way several years ago when Joshua Harris wrote the book I Kissed Dating Goodbye.
Since then, many families and young people have adopted a commitment to courtship. What does that look like in ? A young man and woman do not court until they are ready for their relationship to move toward marriage. These are good parameters. In fact, they are better than good … they are biblical. Young Women is available in E-book format? It is and you can find it here at this link on LDS. On that same page, you can also access the Sunday school, Come, Follow Me. I thought that since the Young Women are so actively using their iphones, smart phones, and many of them have E-book readers, they would certainly think their YW leaders were cool, if they were teaching their lessons by electronic means.
This eliminates lots of paperwork. They are not using them in a way that you would want and do create a distraction in class.
young women I learned a great lesson a few weeks ago: Have one strong message that takes most of the lesson and they’ll remember it. This was discovered during the lesson on scripture study.
Choose to set limits. You will tolerate a difficult relationship situation just as long as you choose to tolerate it. To change the situation, you need to be the one to choose to set boundaries in place. Identify the source of your feelings. It often takes some real soul-searching on your part to figure out the source of your anger or resentment.
Decide when, where, and how to set the limits. Think about the entire situation. Consider your time, emotions, and means. Remember that setting limits is about getting your needs met. Express the limits clearly. For example, you say to your friend, “I will loan you my car once per week for two hours. You are not responsible for making the other person obey the limits.

It was a little difficult to manipulate the program from The Idea Door. I ended up printing it off and then scanning it in. Then I edited in “Paint” Program. After I sent it all out, they indicated that “Cornerstone” was probably their ward name and I should have changed it to our ward name.

Each girl gets a chance to pick or steal something that has already been opened. Once something is stolen twice, it can’t be stolen again. Here are some ideas of cheap and easy presents we brought. Commercials Bring a ton of props stuffed animals, blankets, sports equipment, dress up clothing and add to your stash by having the girls bring one item of their choosing. Everyone picks an item, then split them into groups. Have them prepare a “commercial” for the product they’ve come up with using those items.
Once everyone has performed, switch items and reassign teams. Walk to the Park Have a playground nearby? Learn to crochet There is bound to be a few people in your ward that would be great at teaching the basics. For the girls that get frustrated? Have them make pom poms.
